| | Ioanna Zourou Organic Olive Farm | | The first appearence of Lesvos' olive oil «Ioanna Zourou Organic Olive Farm» at the market, was combined with a great success. It won the first prize during the first phase of the «Premio Biol 2006» organic oil competition that took place in Italy for the Greek olive oil's selection. The already known and also prize-winning Lesvos' olive oil «Aegean Gold» produced by the Protouli homogeny from Plomari, came at the second place. The expectations for a good progress at Andria's international competition(Italy, 21-25 July), weren't confirmed. European contests are difficult not only for greek teams, but for greek olive oils too. However, the Lesvos olive oils' competition ranking, prove both representatives' exellent job. In addition, they show that the underestimated for decades Lesvos' olive oil varieties, can produce olive oil of excellent quality if they are treated right. The only thing left is to take care of some details (those that make the difference), so that «Ioanna Zourou Organic Olive Farm» and «Aegean Gold» olive oils hit the european markets in the future. These rankings also show the constant improvement of Lesvos olive oil's quality, a fact that rewards the efforts of all Lesvos producers. We have to remind ourselves that the 20% of Lesvos' olive farms are organic. The committee that tested the greek olive oils consisted of Giorgio Cardone, Vasilis Kamvisis, Costas Vanna and Anna Neglia | | The valuation of the competitors, was based on the methodology which is provided by the European Union regulations. The Organic Products Certification Organisation DIO, had undertook the collection of the greek olive oils. The two Lesvos' olive oils along with the other seven, will represent Greece at the final phase of the competition. Both Lesvos' olive oil stood well for their special flavour, thin and fruity taste, and high liquidity. All these are the results of the especially attentive job that the producers and the manufacturers do.
